The University of Missouri School of Law Veterans Clinic, through its rural outreach program, Tigers for Troops, will offer a free Continuing Legal Education training hosted by Lowther Johnson Attorneys at Law, LLC, 901 E. St. Louis Street, Suite 2000 Springfield, MO 65806, on Friday, September18, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The program qualifies for 2.4 total MCLE credits, including 1.0 of Ethics (Elimination of Bias) credit. A working lunch will be provided to attendees who register in advance.

The Veterans Clinic is located at the University of Missouri School of Law. Under the supervision of experienced attorneys, law students help veterans, at no charge, with their claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. The Tigers for Troops program was created by the Clinic in 2019 and focuses on ensuring that veterans in even the most remote parts of Missouri have access to resources. Part of that effort focuses on building a statewide network of attorneys trained in veterans law. This network increases the Clinic’s capacity to serve veterans by connecting them with local legal professionals who can provide informed, high-quality representation. Attorneys in the Springfield area who are interested in engaging with the veteran population and advocating for our nation's heroes are encouraged to register.

South Street Christian Church will celebrate its 140th anniversary with a community block party on September 19 from 1-4 pm.

The day will include a bouncy house, games for all ages, and food for sale.

No tickets required. All are welcome.

South Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has been serving the Springfield community since 1886.

First Unitarian Universalist Church of Springfield is hosting a Live and Silent Auction to raise a roof at their church. They believe this event will secure the funds for this project. 80+ items will be available to bid on.

Some of the items include: Private Fused Glass Class for Five by Kara DeBacker, Date Night Tickets/Passes, Enjoy an evening of music by Paul Phariss, Adult Tricycle, Gift Baskets, Family Membership at Meyer Center, Antique Quilt, Sewing Classes, Basket Weaving Lessons, Quilted Banner, Marie Scarpa One of a Kind Jewelry, Prints, and so much more.

In addition to the auction No Reservations will prepare for the event with a cost of $15.

Live From Downtown is a weekly concert series hosted in the heart of Downtown Springfield, Missouri in Park Central Square, located on historic Route 66. By hosting local artists every Saturday the series encourages the greater Springfield community and its guests to spend time downtown interacting with local businesses, socializing with neighbors, and learning about our vibrant history, all while experiencing a wide variety of Ozarks-grown talent in an accessible and family-friendly venue.

Bookmarx will host Patty Prewitt in The Footnote on September 19 at 7:30 pm as she shares her journey, reads excerpts from her work, and signs copies of her books. This is a free event but seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

“Patty Prewitt went to prison in 1986 for a murder she did not commit. She and her supporters fought for justice every day of her incarceration. Governor Parson freed her on December 20, 2024. She hit the ground running. Her first memoir, Trying to Catch Lightning in a Jar, chronicling the first 20 years of her incarceration, was published just months later. In December, she completed her bachelor’s at Washington University St. Louis, and this spring she published her second memoir, Catching Lightning, about the second half of her imprisonment and release. She has also published a children’s book, A Little Person Like You Whose Mommy Goes to Prison. Patty is currently working on two poetry books and a Spanish translation of her children’s book.”

MSU Campus Recreation will host the Inspire the Roar 5K on the Missouri State University campus. All fitness levels are welcome.

This Family Weekend tradition is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of Bear pride, wellness, and community. Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt (while supplies last), and awards will be given to top finishers in multiple categories.

Porch Pickin’ in Woodland Heights is back with a concert on Sunday, September 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at 2120 N Boonville.

This performance features live music from Emily Higgins and Devlin Pierce.

Porch Pickin’ returns every third Sunday through October.

Paws to the Polls will present the fall Voting Fair, “Show Me Civic Engagement,” on September 22, from 11:30 to 2:30. The fair will be held on the West Lawn (between Plaster Stadium and McDonald Arena), with a rainy-day backup in the Plaster Student Union’s 2^nd floor atrium. All forms of civic engagement will be highlighted, including electoral engagement, and strive to create a positive, festive atmosphere surrounding that theme.   
 
A number of community and campus public affairs-related organizations have been invited to engage with students and talk about opportunities to become involved, and the Greene County Clerk will be on hand to register voters and allow students to become familiar with voting machines used in elections.
