The Springfield Art Museum will host Off the Wall: Shaping Your Museum, a new series of casual conversations with Museum Director Nick Nelson.
This quarter's theme is "What is a Museum to you?" Discussions will explore how the Springfield Art Museum can serve as a space for fostering creativity, inspiring wonder, and cultivating a deeper understanding of the human experience through meaningful engagement with art.
Community feedback will help measure the Museum's progress against its strategic plan and ensure that its transformation reflects the needs and aspirations of the people it serves.

The Rountree Council for Preservation will host a Historic Homes Tour May 9 and 10 with a self-guided tour of homes and gardens of Springfield's Historic Rountree Neighborhood.
Friday, May 9 will feature live music, local makers, and timeless neighborhood charm. Saturday, May 10 will offer the full tour, exploring the architecture, character, and stories that make Rountree unique.

Adults are invited to attend Collection Connection with the Springfield Art Museum at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library, 2214 Brentwood Blvd.
Delve into pieces from the Springfield Art Museum's Permanent Collection. Oddities and Curiosities. Springfield Art Museum Curator of Art Sarah Buhr will share stories and details about the oddities in the Springfield Art Museum's collection. With nearly 100 years of history, the museum houses many unusual items, including hair wreaths, forks and spoons, dolls and spectacles. Buhr will explore how these objects came to be part of the collection and invite an open discussion about their significance to the community.

The West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) will host an etched glass baking dish workshop with local artist Tara Shahan on Tuesday, May 13 at the West Plains Civic Center (Dogwood 1&2). The price for the workshop is $45, all supplies included.

About the instructor: Coordinator Tara Shahan was raised in a small town in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio until about the age of 12 when her family moved to Missouri. Her upbringing included being a member of 4-H, where most her projects consisted of food, sewing and crafts taught by her mother, a 4-H leader. Tara won ribbons for her work at local and state fairs.
Her love of arts and crafts continued throughout her adult life and now she teaches workshops in the local area including north-central Arkansas. Her art includes acrylic painting on canvas and wood as well as other craft projects such as door hangers, wreaths, faux stained glass, and glass etching to name a few. Tara now lives in West Plains and has conducted local art and craft workshops for the West Plains Council on the Arts for about six years.
