Citizens interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the Springfield Police Departmentโs practices and policies can apply now for the 2026 Citizens Police Academy beginning in August.
The program curriculum covers a variety of topics including police policies, organizational structure, investigative processes, and policing tactics. Participants complete 33 hours of instruction over 11 weeks, meeting every Tuesday beginning August 12.
The academyโs goal is to give citizens a better understanding of how the police department functions and an inside look at the challenges officers face when working to serve the community.
Applications must be received by July 5, 2026, at 5 p.m. Late applications will not be considered. Interested Springfield residents can apply online.
Applicants MUST be Springfield residents who are at least 18 years of age. Applicants must pass a basic background investigation to be eligible.

The East Town Dreams District will present a Juneteenth celebration of freedom: "Rooted in Wisdom.....Rising in Excellence;" featuring live music with Tone Loc, food, and games. The event will be held Friday, June 19 from 6 to 9 pm and Saturday, June 20 from 8 am to 10 pm at Hope Park in Joplin.
The longest day of the year is a favorite to celebrate the height of summer, sunshine, and lots of locally grown produce!
FMOTO Summer Kick-Off is where you can soak up the sun as you shop with your favorite local vendors!
Plus, you can help encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of the next generation on Kid Vending Day, where kids can set up their own booths and sell alongside their parents!

The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools (FSPS) invites graduates to walk the halls of their alma maters once again through the 2026 Alumni Connection Tours. Spanning from June through early September, this summer series offers a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their roots, celebrate their school pride, and witness firsthand the ongoing commitment to academic excellence within the district.
Organized through the Foundationโs Alumni Connection program (https://www.supportsps.org/alumni/), the tours are completely free to attend, but advance registration is required. Each event is tailored to highlight the distinct history, traditions, and modern advancements of five Springfield high schools.
Alumni from all graduating classes are encouraged to attend, share their stories, and see how Springfield Public Schools continue to innovate.
Admission is $7+ General Admission per person and includes pizza!
