Springfield Tenants Unite

A judge's decision in a hearing held Monday will decide if tenants can stay in their homes while the class action lawsuit against their current and former landlords moves through the courts.

The tenants wanted their elected city leader to know about the conditions they are living in, which include nonworking elevators.

The 18-month project will target more than 1,500 homes in the West Central neighborhood, chosen for its high concentration of aging or blighted homes.

The pilot would start in the West Central neighborhood. City councilmembers disagreed about details of the draft program. It is unclear if and when the pilot program will be up for a vote.

Housing issues played a big role at Monday night’s Springfield City Council meeting.
