In the 1940s, Herman “Doc” Horn went on to play professional baseball for the Kansas City Monarchs. With the majors desegregated, he might have followed in Jackie Robinson's footsteps, but his duty to his country changed that path.

John Ndahiriwe was a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who immigrated to the Ozarks. He and his family escaped a dire situation to make a new home in the United States.

"African American Heritage in the Ozarks" will be displayed at the Garnett Library on the MSU-West Plains campus through the end of March.
