Joplin and Springfield have made a top ten list identifying the best cities for truckers in the US.
In a study of 384 cities by AdvisorSmith, Springfield ranks #9 for best mid-size cities for heavy & tractor-trailer truck drivers.
And Joplin was ranked #1 in the study, due to its location in the four state area, and many major trucking lines have their headquarters there.
According to Katherine Trombetta, spokeswoman for the Missouri Jobs Center, Springfield earned the ranking for a number of reasons, including its central location in the United States.
“We sit near a major interstate and other major highways. So it makes it easy for trucking companies to get their freight in and out of the area, and to the east and west coasts.”
Several locations in Springfield also offer training for students to become truck drivers, and several companies are also headquartered here.
The locations that provide training or will sposor attendance to CDL Training include Prime Trucking, Wilson Logistics, Old Dominion Freight, Trailiner, and Hogan Services. CDL Schools in the Southwest MO area include C1 Truck Driver Training, Truck Dynasty Driving Academy, Midwest Technical Institute, 160 Driving Academy, and Clement Truck Driver Training.
