The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed zoning case for a Menards store at its Thursday meeting.

The home improvement business would be located on a 39-acre plat at the corner of Zimmer Avenue and West Sunshine Street. Springfield City Council in March approved annexing the private property and six acres of MoDOT and Greene County right-of-way for the project.

The building is one of two that the retailer wants to build in Springfield. The other is planned for the northeast corner of Chestnut Expressway at U.S. 65.

Company representatives say the project will bring 200 new jobs and $30 million in sales during its first year of operation.

Approximately 25 people living adjacent to the property attended a December meeting to discuss the rezoning issue.  Anyone wishing to speak at this week’s meeting should fill out a speaker’s card and submit it to city staff at the meeting. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Council Chambers of City Hall.
