Construction crews this week will begin work on a $2.3 million project to upgrade a busy Springfield intersection.

Roadway and stormwater improvements are planned at Campbell Avenue and Primrose Street and surrounding areas in south Springfield. It’s funded by the 1/4-cent Capital Improvement Sales tax revenues.

Public Works Senior Designer Dave Shalla says that traffic volumes there have demonstrated a need to widen the intersection and add duel left turn lanes on southbound Campbell and westbound Primrose. Crews will also extend the northbound third lane on Campbell another 1/3 of a mile from South Avenue to Primrose Street.

The estimated completion date for the project is June 2016.
