Flooding Possible This Week in the Ozarks

An abundance of showers this week followed by a weekend of at times heavy rain means the possibility of flooding in the Ozarks.

Steve Lindenberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Springfield, says Monday and Tuesday will look similar to Saturday and Sunday.

“[And then] as we head into the middle part of the week there’s kind of remnants of a tropical system that’s gonna be moving in from the Gulf, and that’s gonna provide a pretty good band of moderate to heavy rain over the area through Thursday. We’re looking at several inches of rain across the Ozarks,” Lindenberg said.

He reminds citizens that rains of this nature often flood low water crossings pretty quickly.

“Even from today if you get under some of these scattered thunderstorms through at least Thursday when this tropical system the middle of the week comes through it could significantly raise stream and creek levels.”

There’s at least a 50 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the region Monday afternoon through Thursday.
