Springfield Art Museum

*Due to expected winter weather Saturday night into Sunday, be sure to check with the sponsoring organizations ahead of time to be sure they haven't canceled their events.

The Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside Dr. in Springfield, will host “Pre-K Project Days” Friday morning (3/1) at 10:30.  Admission is $5.  The event includes storytime and a hands-on art project. 

First Friday Art Walk is Friday night (3/1) from 6 to 10 at 22 venues in downtown Springfield. 

Harpist Drew Holt will perform Celtic music Friday night (3/1) at the Park Central Branch Library, and visitors can view the exhibit, New and Old Work by Jonathan Zachary.  Learn more here

The Home and Garden Show will be held Friday (3/1) from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday (3/2) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Plains Civic Center.  During the show, the West Plains Community Garden will hold sign-up for garden space. 

Disney’s The Lion King is at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts through March 10. 

The Branson Regional Arts Council presents Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” through Sunday (3/3) at the Historic Owen Theatre, 205 S. Commercial in Branson. 

The Missouri State University Baseball Bears will host UC Irvine Friday (3/1) at noon at Hammons Field.  For ticket information, missouristatetix.com.

Springfield Little Theatre presents“Blow Ye Winds Blow” through Sunday (3/3) at the SLT Education Building, 237 S. Florence. 

The Drury University baseball team will host Augustana University Friday (3/1) at noon and 3 p.m. and Saturday (3/2) at noon at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.  Learn more here

Dr. Peter Wampler, associate professor of geology at GrandValley State University in Pennsylvania, will present “Wells, Wandering Seeds and Workable Water Solutions for Haiti,”Friday afternoon (3/1) at 3:30 in MSU’s Temple Hall, Room 345. 

The Missouri State University Foreign Language Institute will host a Community Open House Friday night (3/1) at 6 at the Jim D. Morris Center, 301 S. Jefferson in Springfield.  It’s a chance to see whether foreign language courses are right for you. 

The Jokers’ Masquerade Ball will be held Friday night (3/1) at 6 at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Tickets are $30. 

An orchid show and sale will be held Friday night (3/1) from 5 to 7:30, Saturday (3/2) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (3/3) from noon to 4 at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, 4703 N. Crossover Rd. in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. 

Springfield Contemporary Theatre presents “Skeleton Crew” through Sunday (3/3) at 302 E. Pershing.  The play follows co-workers at a Detroit auto stamping plant in 2008 who will have to make tough choices if their plant goes under. 

The Missouri State University women’s basketball team will host UNI Friday night (3/1) at 7 and Drake Sunday afternoon (3/3) at 2 at JQH Arena, and MSU is offering discounted tickets.  Learn more here

The Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Department presents “Bare—the Musical” through March 6 in the Craig Hall Balcony Theatre. 

The 30th annual RV Mega Show is at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds Friday and Saturday (3/1-3/2) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday (3/3) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is $10. 

Learn how to provide a nesting site for purple martins during a program Saturday (3/9) at 1 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Registration is required.   (This program, originally set for March 2, was rescheduled due to expected inclement weather).

Prairie State Park in Mindenmines, MO will host a Bison Hike Saturday morning (3/2) at 10.  Learn about bison and maybe see some during a two-mile hike.  Registration is required. 

The Costume Day Paradewill be held Saturday (3/2) at 2 in downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

The Missouri Southern State University Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will present a concert Saturday night (3/2) at 7:30 at the Taylor Performing Arts Center in Joplin.  

Learn woodcarving techniques from members of the Southern Missouri Woodcarving Artists Saturday morning (3/2) at 11 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Registration for “Nature Art: The Art of Woodcarving” is required.

Adults are invited to learn how to make paper flowers during a crafting class Saturday (3/2) at 11 a.m. at the Christian County Library Ozark Branch, 1005 N. 4th

Springfield Roller Derby will open its 2019 season Saturday night (3/2) at 5 at the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Mosque, 601 E. St. Louis. 

The Fair Grove Branch Library will host “Crafts and Cappucino,” Saturday (3/2) from 1 to 4 for adults.  Take an unfinished craft project to work on or use the library’s materials. 

The Library Foundation of the Springfield-Greene County Library District will host the Greek wine tasting, “One Big Party,” Saturday night (3/2) at 7 at 1332 E. Republic Rd.  Tickets are $50 a person and include Greek dancing, Greek wines, appetizers and more.

The program, “Nature Art: With a Chinese Brush Stroke,” will be held Saturday (3/2) at 2:45 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Art instructor, Hing Wah Hatch, will teach how to capture the essence of local plants and animals through Chinese-style painting. 

“Expressions of the Soul” will be held Saturday and Sunday (3/2-3/3) at the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.  See images of Carver’s artwork that he used to convey a sense of serenity and personal rejuvenation. 

Echo Bluff State Park will present the program, "Night Sky,"  Saturday night (3/2) at 7:30.  Telescopes will be set up, and those who attend will be able to view constellations and the Milky Way if the weather cooperates. 

The Missouri River Bird Observatory will band birds Sunday (3/3) from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, and the public is invited to watch.  (This event has been canceled due to expected inclement weather).

The Missouri State University women’s soccer team will host Evangel University Sunday (3/3) at 1:30 at the Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.  For ticket information, missouristatetix.com.

The Jazz Brunch will be held Sunday (3/3) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  It’s part of the city’s celebration of Mardi Gras.  The cost is $29.95. 

Sunday Make ‘n Playwill be held Sunday (3/3) for kids three-years-old to fourth grade at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library. 

The local film, “Arcana and Mercy,” will be shown Sunday night (3/3) at 7 at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  Tickets are $5. 

Central Christian Church, 1475 N. Washington in Springfield, will present the Song & Larsen Duo as part of its Midtown Concert Series Sunday afternoon (3/3) at 3.
