Severe weather is a possibility, mainly from 6 p.m. to midnight, according to the National Weather Service office in Springfield.  Any storms that can develop this afternoon could also become severe, it warns.

NWS meteorologist, Gene Hatch, said a cold front is expected to move into southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas this afternoon into this evening.  With that front will come the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms to develop, according to Hatch, and all modes of severe weather will be possible.

"The primary concern that we're looking at right now is primarily hail maybe to the size of golf balls, and damaging straight line winds could be in excess of 70 mph in some areas," said Hatch.

There's a chance for isolated tornadoes, primarily along the Missouri/Arkansas border, according to Hatch.

He said residents should monitor the weather.
