Springfield City Council Adopts 2019 Legislative Priorities
Springfield City Council voted on a resolution Monday night to adopt its 2019 legislative priorities. According to city officials, those priorities will guide Springfield’s elected officials and staff in their work with state and federal legislators in the coming year.
Core priorities include maintaining local control; avoiding unfunded mandates; and promoting public safety, economic vitality and fiscal sustainability.
High priorities include asking the local delegation to introduce legislation that imposes an internet sales tax and to introduce legislation that enables the Springfield electorate to either increase the hotel/motel tax or to adopt a convention and tourism and/or convention and sport tax in addition to the hotel/motel tax. The city also would like to see legislation establishing a statewide prescription drug monitoring program.
