The city of Springfield will begin soliciting applications next week for the Zone 1 council seat recently vacated by Jeff Seifried.

City Council has adopted a proposed timeline from City Manager Greg Burris outlining the steps to fill the position.

Seifried, who had represented Zone 1 on the council and served as mayor pro tem since 2012, resigned his post last week after accepting a job in Branson.

Councilman Jerry Compton has been chosen as the new mayor pro tem.

Beginning Monday, the vacancy announcement will be posted, along with qualification requirements. Applications are due to the city clerk’s office by March 27. Council will then review applications and select finalists in mid- to late April, followed by in-person interviews. The candidate selected will be sworn in immediately.

As early as 2012, Council also had to act after the resignation mid-term of Thomas Bieker. Officials ultimately selected Mike Carroll to fill the post.
