The Midtown Carnegie Branch Library in downtown Springfield closed for renovations in May of last year. The Springfield Greene County Library has announced it will reopen Monday at 9:30 a.m.
In a statement Executive Director Ed Walton described the 120-year-old building as the “historic gem” of the library district and the library noted that tiles used on the new addition were manufactured by the same company that created the original 1905 roof tiles.
The building has a new façade and entrance with ramps for improved accessibility, a repaired elevator, a new HVAC system and new water pipes.
The project’s cost, per the Springfield Greene County Library, were about $4.5 million. It was partially funded through ARPA.
The library district currently has two other ARPA funded construction projects underway at its Library Center and Republic branches.
