Workers Injured at Springfield Wastewater Treatment Plan

Springfield-Greene County Park Board

An incident at Springfield’s Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plan has left two contract workers injured.  They were taken to the hospital with what city officials say were non-life-threatening injuries following a low order explosion with flash fire.  The explosion and fire caused damage to a structure called a digester.  Digesters are used to stabilize the solids that are removed from the wastewater during treatment.  Part of the building collapsed.

The city says the incident is under investigation by a Springfield fire marshal and there have been no disruptions in service.
