The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to extend the six-laning of Route 65 south from Route 60 to a point south of Evans Road. The project starts next week.
According to MODOT, the project will also include widening and rehabilitating the southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield and replacing the northbound 65 bridge over the lake.
MODOT will hold a public meeting to share information about how traffic will be impacted during the two-year project April 14 from 4:30 to 6. The open house-style meeting will be held at the Mercy Orthopedic Hospital, in Conference Room A, at 65 and Evans Rd.
You can also attend an online meeting starting the afternoon of April 14 at www.modot.org/southwest.
Contractor crews will begin work in the median of Highway 65 south of Route 60 next week. According to MODOT, all four lanes of the highway will remain open during daytime hours throughout the project, but lanes may be shifted at night. The Ozark Greenways trail underneath the bridge will be closed once bridge work begins and will remain closed until the project is finished.
MODOT officials say the $21 million project is expected to be finished in November 2017.
