Clay Goddard, director for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, said in a press conference August 21 Greene county has COVID cases in five long-term care facilities. Goddard said the county and state government are working together to provide personal protective equipment like masks. Goddard said the state and county are also working to test staff and patients at the facilities keep the virus from spreading.

“We’ve got vested interest in this. This is where we’ve had some bad outcomes,” Goddard said.

The number of cases in the facilities is unclear. it’s also not knowing which specific facilities have had outbreaks, since long-term care facilities are not required to disclose that information to the general public.

The news comes after the Springfield-Greene County Health Department announced 5 deaths from COVID-19 in one day last week. All came from long-term care facilities.
