An annual fundraiser at Drury University has netted $212,000, marking a 15 percent increase for the school over last year.

This was the third year of its “531 Challenge,” which seeks that many donors giving at any level prior to the last day of May – or 5/31.

In total, 644 people gave to Drury, which is a five percent increase in donors from last year. The $212,000 purse was aided by a $50,000 challenge gift from Drury alumna Bobbi Springer. The class of ’49 graduate committed to give that amount if the participation goal was met.

“We were thrilled that Drury alumna Bobbi Springer provided the challenge gift this year in honor of her husband Wallace (Wally) Springer ’47, who served Drury as a Trustee from 1978 to 2004 and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees,” said Judy Thompson, counsel to the president for Stewardship and Major Gifts. “Bobbi is so proud of her Drury ties and said it was an honor to provide this challenge gift.”

In a news release, Drury University said the funds will help build academic success, support student engagement and provide student scholarships.
