SPS School Board Member Announced

Springfield Public Schools

The Springfield Board of Education has a new member.  The board announced Tuesday during a special meeting that Jean Twitty will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Francine Pratt.

The term held by Pratt expires in 2021, but Twitty will serve on the board until the next election on April 5th, 2016.  Voters will decide then who will fulfill the remaining five years of Pratt’s term.

Twitty, former Greene County assessor, served six years on the SPS Board.  She currently serves as a board member on several nonprofit organizations, including the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

Dr. Denise Fredrick, school board president, says Twitty’s past experience on the board “will allow us to continue to function at a high level.”  She says besides Twitty’s expertise, the fact that she was previously chosen by Springfield voters to represent them on the school board makes her the best candidate to fill the vacancy.

Twitty was one of 19 people who expressed an interest in the vacant position.  She was sworn into office last night.
