Ten Missouri school districts have received federal funding to replace diesel buses with cleaner vehicles. The $515,000 in rebates comes from the Environmental Protection Agency, through the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act.
One local school district is benefiting from the rebates. Clever has received $20,000 to replace one of its buses.
According to the EPA, the new buses are more than 90 percent cleaner and reduce “pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter that are linked to health problems including asthma and lung damage.”
Districts must use matching funds from other sources to purchase the new buses.
Those who are granted the money must maintain ownership of replacement buses for three years.
