Emergency Officials are urging participation in Missouri’s Annual Severe Weather Awareness Week, now through Friday.

Larry Woods, interim director of the Greene County Office of Emergency Management, is asking everyone practice ways to respond to hazardous weather threats so they have the knowledge and tools necessary to survive.

Each day this week, officials will focus on a different safety message, beginning today with an overall message of preparedness.

On Tuesday, it’s tornado safety, with warning sirens to sound at 10 am throughout the state. That evening, OEM will partner with the National Weather Service Office in Springfield for the 2017 Storm Spotter Training Course. It’s scheduled for 6:30 pm in the auditorium of the Assemblies of God National Leadership and Resource Center, 1445 N. Boonville Ave. The event is free and open to the public. See a schedule of local storm spotter training classes here.

The rest of the week will focus on flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, and communication.

OEM encourages citizens to access weather safety tips and resources through its website, the NWS’s Severe Weather Awareness Week page and on Missouri’s StormAware website.
