Jefferson Avenue Closure Set to Begin Today

City of Springfield

A section of Jefferson Avenue in downtown Springfield will close today.  Jefferson, between Water and Olive, will be closed for several weeks as part of phase II of the Jefferson Streetscape Project.  The city of Springfield says the closure is necessary for public safety during storms due to the slope of Jefferson Avenue and excavation required to complete the project.

The project continues the streetscape improvements being made downtown, including ADA-compliant sidewalks, lighting enhancements and signal reconstruction on Jefferson from Park Central East to Water St. and on Olive St. from Robberson to Jefferson.

The project is scheduled to be finished in January.
