Hunger Action Month is Ozarks Food Harvest’s annual advocacy campaign to raise awareness about hunger in the Ozarks and inspire action in the community. Proceeds from Hunger Action Month will support the Weekend Backpack Program, which provides children facing hunger with kid-friendly, nutritious meals and snacks to take home every weekend of the school year.
Join the movement to end hunger by attending Hunger Action Month events, hosting a food and fund drive, making your business a community partner or spreading the word.
Orange is the color of Hunger Action Month. You can show support for hunger relief by wearing orange on Go Orange Day, September 16.
Citizens Memorial Hospice will offer an eight-week bereavement support group series beginning Tuesday, September 16, at 10 am.
The support group is open to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one and is free to attend. Sessions will be held in CMH Community Room 2 at Grand Missouri Bank, 1630 S Killingsworth Ave, in Bolivar.
The support group is designed to educate participants about grief and loss, help them develop coping and adapting skills, and provide emotional support.
The sessions will be led by CMH Hospice chaplains Austin McCrickard and Dustin Preston, along with counselors Terry Warren, LMSW; Angel Townsend, MSW; Kimberly Lannan, MSW; and hospice coordinator Connie Duryee.
Topics will include understanding the grief experience, managing complex emotions, coping with changes, preparing for holidays and special occasions, and finding meaning after loss.

Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Greene County Children's Division, Greene County Prosecutor's Office, and the Child Advocacy Center will host a free three-hour mandated reporter training on September 25 to help mandated reporters understand their responsibilities.
Learn when and how to report to the Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline, legal responsibilities and protections for reporters and administrators, and what happens after a report is filed.

Hummingbird migration is in full swing, which means now is a great time to learn about these small and fascinating creatures.
People can learn about hummingbirds at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) virtual program “Birds: Hummingbirds of Missouri” on Sept. 25. This free online program will be from 1-2 p.m. and is open to all ages. People can register at:

At the Sept. 25 program, MDC Naturalist Wendy Lott will have information about the annual life cycle of a hummingbird. She will discuss this bird’s fall migrations to southern Mexico and Central America. These migration trips send many hungry hummingbirds to area feeders. She will also talk about how people can plant native plants to attract these pollinators, as well as other native pollinating birds and insects, to yards and gardens.

Theatre North of 60, an initiative of National Avenue Christian Church, will present a production of the musical Annie September 12-21. This unique staging will bring the classic story to life with a twist: every role, from the feisty orphan Annie to the formidable Miss Hannigan and the benevolent Daddy Warbucks, will be portrayed by actors aged 55 and over.
Annie will be performed in a re-engineered space at National Avenue Christian Church. All shows are free to the public, with donations accepted. Shows include evening performances and matinees on the following dates:

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites women to fish for free Sept. 27 at Bennett Spring State Park’s Women’s Free Fishing Day event.
At Women’s Free Fishing Day, which will be 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., fishing is free for all girls and women. There is no license or daily tag fee for these anglers. They can pick up their free daily trout tag at the park store on the evening of Sept. 26 or any time during the event on Sept. 27. During the event, a portion of the park’s Zone 2 and Zone 3 fishing areas will be specially stocked and reserved for female anglers. This event is sponsored by MDC, Capital City Fly Fishers, Ozark Fly Fishers, Conservation Federation of Missouri, Bennett Spring Fly Tying Group, Bennett Spring State Park, and the Bennett Spring State Park Store.
Also, as part of the Sept. 27 Women’s Free Fishing Day event, members of the Capital City Fly Tying Group will be at the park demonstrating fly tying, knots, fly casting and giving out attendance prizes.There is no registration for this event. People can get more information at:
