Weekend Outlook November 9-11, 2018

Missouri State University will host the Veterans Day Breakfast with a program featuring Brigadier General Troy Galloway Friday morning (11/9) at 9. A concert by the 135th Army Band will start at 10:30 a.m. outside McDonald Arena with a cascading performance of Taps at 11:11 performed by MSU Pride Band members.  Learn more here

Veterans Homecoming Week continues through Saturday (11/10) in Branson with a variety of events for veterans. 

The MSU men’s basketball team will host Robert Morris Friday night (11/9) at 7 at JQH Arena.  Learn more here

Wild Bob’s Musical Book Club is Friday night (11/9) at 6:30 at Lindberg’s Tavern, 318 W. Commercial St.  Local musicians are tasked with writing a song based on a book of the month.  This month’s book is The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Gramm. 

Branson’s Gift of Lights lighting display is open through December 31 from dusk until 11 p.m. each night at the corner of Shepherd of the Hills Expressway and Expressway Lane. 

The 71st annual Ozark Folk Festival continues Friday and Saturday (11/9-11/10) in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. 

The Harry Potter Game Show Extravaganza, for adults, will start at 7 Friday night (11/9) at the Library Center.  Compete with others for Harry Potter-themed prizes. 

The Rock House Center for the Arts in Reeds Spring will host a night of acoustic music by Sky Smeed Saturday night (11/10) at 8.  To purchase tickets, click here.    

The Nixa Chamber of Commerce will host a Holiday Open House Friday through Sunday (11/9-11/11) at several Nixa businesses. 

USA Dance, Ozarks Chapter will host a Veterans Dance Friday night (11/9) at 7:15 at the Northview Center, 301 E. Talmage in Springfield.  Veterans get in free. 

Eureka Springs, Arkansas will host a Veterans Day Parade Saturday morning (11/10) at 10 through downtown. 

The Fall Community Garage Sale will be held Saturday (11/10) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cowan Civic Center, 500 E. Elm in Lebanon. 

The 31st annual Community Veterans Day Parade Saturday morning (11/10) at 10 in downtown Joplin.   

The film, “Good Night, and Good Luck,” will be shown Saturday afternoon (11/10) at 1 the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  It’s presented by the Drury Humanities Department and will include a post show discussion of the film with Jonathan Groves.  Learn more here

The Hip Handmade Market, an indie craft fair, will be held Saturday (11/10) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 931 E. 4th St. in downtown Joplin. 

The MSU Football Bears will host North Dakota State Saturday afternoon (11/10) at 2 at Plaster Stadium.  Bearfest Village opens at 11 a.m. north of the stadium.  Learn more here

Cultural Treasures, the 40th annual International Banquet and Show, will be held Saturday night (11/10) from 5 to 9 at the Plaster Student Union on the MSU campus. 

The second annual Heroes and Holidays Festival is Saturday afternoon (11/10) from noon to 6 on C-Street. 

Glamping for Camping will start Saturday night (11/10) at 5:30 at the White River Conference Center, 600 W. Campbell in Springfield.  Proceeds will benefit Camp Barnabas.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2818 E. Bennett in Springfield, will host a Holiday Bazaar Saturday (11/10) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday (11/11) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The program, “Constructing Loyalty and Identity:  The German-American Experience in Missouri During World War I,” for adults, will start Saturday afternoon (11/10) at 2 at the Library Center.

The Second Saturday Art Walk will be held Saturday (11/10) from noon to 5 at various downtown Springfield venues. 

Christmas on Campbell will be held Saturday (11/10) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Campbell Ave. in downtown Springfield.  It’s an annual holiday walk and open house. 

The Midtown Workshop Series continues Saturday (11/10) at 2 at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library.  The series features local experts sharing useful skills.  This weekend will feature a coffee tasting.

Anyone 13 and older is invited to see the film, “Star Wars:  The Last Jedi,” rated PG-13, at the Fair Grove Branch Library Saturday afternoon (11/10) at 3.  Popcorn will be provided. 

Temple Israel will host the 15th annual Art Fest Sunday (11/11) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5910 S. Farm Rd. 193 in Rogersville.  The event will offer artwork, Jewish pastries, deli sandwiches, a silent auction, a used book sale and Judaica items for sale. 

In honor of Veterans Day, and as part of the World War I Series, the Springfield-Greene County Library will host a special program on Sunday (11/11).  “World War I in Music and Letters” will start at 11 a.m. at the Library Center.  Members of the Springfield Symphony will perform a tribute honoring the history of WWI.  The event will begin at the moment 100 years ago when the Great War ended.  Those who attend are asked to be seated by 10:55. 

The Library Center will host an exhibit and viewing of the Missouri and the Great War Exhibit Sunday (11/11) from noon to 1:30.  Refreshments will be served. 

The program, “Memory and Legacy:  Missouri in the Great War,” will be held Sunday at 1:30 for adults at the Library Center. 

Boy Scout Troop 60 in Harrison, Arkansas will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony Sunday (11/11) at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 Arbor Dr. in Harrison.  The public is invited to take flags to be retired.  For more information, (678) 525-7737.

The Moxie Cinema’s Essentials Film Series continues Sunday afternoon (11/11) at 3:45 at the Moxie, 305 S. Campbell in Springfield, with the 1934 film, “It Happened One Night.”  The series focuses on films that everyone should see on the big screen.
