James River Basin Partnership

Two events this weekend will raise funds for James River Basin Partnership.  KSMU's Michele Skalicky talks with Christa Gammon, with JRBP, about The Sunset Soiree--a Bridge to Clean Water and River Jam.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will host a program for children two and younger today and tomorrow (6/10-6/11).  Babes in the Woods starts at 10 am both days.  To register, 888-4237.   

The program, Fantastic Friday at the Railroad Historical Museum, will be held this morning (6/10) from 10 to noon for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade.  The event includes train stories, activities and tours of the train engine and cars.  For more information, 865-1340.

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will present living history programs this weekend depicting the German-American troops comprising a large part of General Lyon’s Union Army that fought at Wilson’s Creek.  Infantry musket drill and firing demonstrations are scheduled at Tour Road Stop 5 tomorrow (6/11) at noon and 2 and at 1 on Sunday (6/12).  Cannon drill and firing demonstrations are scheduled at 11, 1 and 3 tomorrow and noon and 2 Sunday.  To learn more, nps.gov/wicr or 732-2662.

The Second Saturday Music Series continues tomorrow night (6/11) from 5 to 7 in Eureka Springs with free music at Basin Spring Park. 

The second annual Hope for Horses Spring Festival is set for tomorrow (6/11) from 10 am to 5 pm at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Summit, Arkansas.  The organization rescues and rehabilitates neglected and abused horses in Marion County, Arkansas.  Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. 

The Run for the World 5K will start tomorrow morning (6/11) at 7:30 at Atchley Park in Lebanon.  Proceeds will benefit the Hanna Project helping people trapped by poverty, war and disease.  To find out more, click here.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a Family Fishing Fair tomorrow (6/11) from 9 am to 2 pm at Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery in Branson.  Kids 15 and younger will be able to catch fish and learn about fishing.  Admission is free.  For details, 334-4865, ext. 0. 

You can fish for free this weekend in Missouri.  The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting Free Fishing Days tomorrow and Sunday (6/11-6/12).  To learn more, mdc.mo.gov

Hulston Mill Civil War Days will be held tomorrow and Sunday (6/11-6/12).  The historic mill is located midway between Greenfield and Everton on US 160.  The event will feature Civil War period lifestyle demonstrations, battles, Civil War music, games, a mercantile and more.  Hours are 9 to 5 tomorrow and 9 to 2:30 Sunday.  Admission is $5 for adults.  Kids in grades K-12 get in free with adult admission.   

The 2016 River Jam is set for tomorrow (6/11) from 2 to 10 pm at Finley River Park in Ozark.  This fundraiser for James River Basin Partnership will feature hands-on activities, live music, a crawdad boil, beer and food vendors and more.  For details, jamesriverbasin.com

The program, The What, Where and How of Finding Your Ancestors in Military Records, will be held tomorrow afternoon (6/11) at 1 at the Ozark Genealogical society Library, 534 W. Catalpa in Springfield. Register at www.ozarksgs.org

The series, Let’s Make Miniatures, continues tomorrow (6/11) for age 12 and older at the Park Central Branch Library.  Make tiny paintings on tiny easels at 10 am.  For details, 831-1342. 

The program, A Voyage from England, will be held tomorrow night (6/11) at 6:30 at the Library Center.  Adults can learn what it was like to cross the Atlantic in 1828 from England to New York City on the American sailing ship.  There will also be a performance from a readers’ theater based on the journal of Englishman John Salmon.  To learn more, 882-0714. 

The White River Group of the Sierra Club invites current and prospective members to join them at the Lake Springfield Boathouse Sunday (6/12) from 1:30 to 5:30 to learn more about the Sierra Club.  There will be local musicians and a potluck—take a dish to share and plates and utensils.   

Missouri State University’s Summer Carillon Series will feature Carol Jickling Lens from the University of Denver Sunday night (6/12) from 7 to 8 with tours of the carillon after the concert.  Take blankets or lawn chairs.  The concert will feature classical arrangements as well as favorites from stage and screen.  No admission charge.  The event will also include the first Picnic Extravaganza.  The most impressive picnic display will win tickets for an upcoming MSU Theatre & Dance Department performance. 

The Sunday Concert Series continues Sunday (6/12) at 2 at the Library Center.  Listen to music by Techs and the Roadies, an Americana/folk group. 

The Ozark Generals Baseball Club will play a game against the St. Joe Mustangs Sunday (6/12) to support the Miracle League of Springfield.  The game will start at 6 at Meador Park, 2500 S. Fremont.  To find out more, 808-0200.
