Astro Brief: Galaxy Cluster Collisions

X-ray: NASA/CXC/CfA/Stroe, A. et al.; Optical: PanSTARRS; Radio: ASTRON/LOFAR; Image Processing: NASA/CXC/SAO/N. Wolk

Two galaxy clusters are set to repeat a second collision with one another.

The galaxy cluster PSZ2 G181 was recently observed by the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, revealing two separate clusters that had collided and were poised to do so again. Dr. Andra Stroe and team published an article in The Astrophysics Journal as part of a three part series describing their findings.

Join us this week as Mike explores galaxy clusters and the evolution of the universe.

Astro Brief is a collaboration between KSMU, the Missouri Space Grant, and MSU's Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science. Hosted by Dr. Mike Reed, Astro Brief focuses on astronomical events, the field of astronomy, and astronomy-related guests. It airs Thursdays at 9:45 am on KSMU.

Distinguished Professor of the Missouri State University Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science.
