Update: Meteorologist Cory Rothstein with the National Weather Service office in Springfield said the snow is expected to continue this afternoon and taper off during the evening hours.
"As far as snow totals with this entire event we're expecting still one to three inches across southwestern Missouri and extreme southeastern Kansas and then there will also be a chance for some light freezing drizzle mixing in primarily south and east of I-44," he said.
As of 11:30 a.m., Neosho had reported 3.3 inches of snow while Springfield was reporting one to one and a half inches.
A winter weather advisory continues through 6 p.m. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens for lows overnight.
Original Story: A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 tonight. Meteorologist Steve Lindenberg with the National Weather Service said, "the snow should linger through the rest of the morning and into the afternoon hours. We're looking at basically one to three inches across the area."
There’s a chance for some freezing drizzle mainly over south central Missouri, according to Lindenberg.
He said the winter precipitation will impact traffic, especially this afternoon.
"Temperatures are going to drop so there's going to be slick spots developing across the area," he said, "and it could impact travel quite a bit especially in locations that can see pretty rapidly accumulating snows."
The snow is expected to end this evening. Temperatures will drop into the teens tonight with wind chills as low as 7.
