Enhancing Agriculture in an Urban Environment

Sheila Nichols, executive director of the Springfield Urban Agriculture Coalition, discusses agriculture in an urban environment.

Gardens and small farms can be have a positive impact on the community’s health and economy.

Specifically, the D.I.R.T., or Dig in R-Twelve project, is teaching school children the fun of gardening. They learn healthy tips about fresh food while using math and science skills in gardens at their schools.

Michele Skalicky has worked at KSMU since the station occupied the old white house at National and Grand. She enjoys working on both the announcing side and in news and has been the recipient of statewide and national awards for news reporting. She likes to tell stories that make a difference. Michele enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and leisurely kayaking.
