The Old-Time Music Ozark Heritage Festival is Friday and Saturday (5/31-6/1) in West Plains.  The event features live music, demonstrations, vendors and more. The Fiddlers’ Frolic starts Friday night at 5 at the West Plains Civic Center. 

The 25th annual Junebug Jamboree is Friday and Saturday (5/31-6/1) at the American Legion, 2660 S. Scenic in Springfield. 

Free rhythm and blues music will be offered in Basin Spring Park in downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas Friday and Saturday (5/31-6/1).  Tony Redman will give a concert at 3 Friday and Jeremiah Johnson at 5:30.  On Saturday hear Brick Fields at 2 and Rich McDonnough at 5:30. 

Listen to bluegrass music Friday nights from 7 to 9 at Roaring River State Park in Cassville.  Various bands will perform throughout the summer at the amphitheater. 

Joplin Little Theatre presents “9 To 5. The Musical” at 7:30 Friday and Saturday night (5/31-6/1) and 2:30 on Sunday (6/2). 

Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland will host “A Golden Evening,” a celebration and fundraiser for Girl Scouts’ highest awards, Friday night (5/31) at 6at 425 Downtown in Springfield. 

The Springfield Cardinals will host the Arkansas Naturals Friday night (5/31) at 7:10 and Saturday and Sunday (6/1-6/2) at 6:10 at Hammons Field. 

The Moxie Cinema’s Staff Picks Series will feature the 2007 film,“Zodiac,” Friday night (6/1) at 7:30 and Saturday night (6/1) at 9:30 at the Moxie, 305 S. Campbell in Springfield. 

An informational meeting will be held Friday night (5/31) at 6 at Pomme de Terre State Park.  The meeting will give participants a chance to share input and learn about future plans for the park. 

The Grandma’s House Color Run will be held Saturday morning (6/1) at Harrison, Arkansas’ soccer complex. 

The 15th annual Rock House Music Festival will be held Saturday (6/1) at Flavie Lear Field in downtown Reeds Spring.  Gates open at 1:30.  Take lawn chairs. 

A cave hike will held Saturday mornng (6/1) at 10 at the Devil's Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park in Cassville.  Meet at the trailhead.

The program, "Snakes Alive" will be held Saturday night (6/1) at 8:30 at the Roaring River State Park amphitheater.

Celebrate National Trails Day by testing your nature knowledge at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center Saturday (6/1) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pick up a question sheet in the visitor center and then head out on the trails to try to answer nature-related questions.  Test your knowledge when you return and claim a prize.  Learn more here.

The Tour de Brew Beerfest will be held Saturday (6/1) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Springfield.  The event involves biking, walking or running on a tour of local breweries. 

Moxie Morningswill start Saturday morning (6/1) at 10 at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in Springfield.  Kids two to six-years-old will watch an innovative short film and take part in hands-on art making. 

Springfield Community Gardens presents “Wildcraft: An Ozarks Culinary Adventure” Saturday (6/1) from 11 to 2 at the Springfield Art Museum.  Learn about the importance of local food and appetizers and cocktails. 

The CoxHealth Kids Health and Safety Fair is Saturday morning (6/1) from 9 to noon in the parking lot of Cox North, 1423 N. Jefferson.  The event will feature helicopter, ambulance and fire truck tours, car seat checks, bicycle safety stations, bounce houses and more. 

The first annual Branson Regional Arts Council BBQ Fest will be held Saturday (6/1) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. behind the historic Owen Theater in downtown Branson. 

A guided tour of the fish hatchery at Bennett Spring State Park will be offered Saturday morning (6/1) at 10.  Meet at the newest hatchery building. 

The program, “Riparian Zone: The Scoop on the Stream’s Edge,” will be held Saturday afternoon (6/1) at 1 at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon. 

Aphotography program will start Saturday morning (6/1) at 10 at Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon.  Learn techniques for taking pictures through glass or plastic. 

The Willow Springs Arts Council will present pianist, David Hays, and the BEAR Trio Saturday (6/1) at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Willow Springs.  And the council will present bluegrass music Saturday night at 7 at the Star Theater in Willow Springs.  Learn more here

Men’s Chorus of the Ozarks presents “Starry Starry Night” Saturday (6/1) at 2 and 7 at the Creamery Arts Center. 

Artillery Firing Demonstrations will be held Saturday (6/1) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tour Stop 5 at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

The program,“Meet a Firefighter!”will be held Saturday morning (6/1) at 10:30 at the Library Center.  Members of the Springfield Fire Department will talk about their jobs, demonstrate equipment and show participants a fire truck. 

The Route 66 Mother Road Bicycle Tour will be held Saturday (6/1) in Joplin with a variety of routes and distances. 

Celebrate National Trails Day Saturday (6/1) at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.  The day features a ranger-led hike and information about NPS trails, hiking safety and nutrition. 

Learn how to identify and avoid various poisonous plants and venomous animals as well as the best way to deal with things like mosquitos and ticks during a program Saturday morning (6/1) at 10:30 at the Walter Woods Conservation Area in Joplin.  Registration is required. 

The Shriner Parade will be held Saturday morning (6/1) at 11:15 in Springfield.  It will travel south from Trafficway on John Q. Hammons Parkway and will go west on St. Louis to Kimbrough. 

A Mustang Car Show Paradewill start Saturday afternoon (6/1) in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  It will start at Pine Mountain, run through the upper loop to the library, down Spring St. and back to Pine Mountain. 

The Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Ozarks will host the Dining in the Dark fundraiser Saturday night (6/1) at 6 at the White River Conference Center. 

The Home Team, Springfield Improv’s flagship show, will start Saturday night (6/1) at 7:30 at 308 South Avenue in Springfield.  Learn more here

Prairie State Park in Mindenmines will host a two-mile Bison Hike Saturday morning (6/1) at 10.  Registration is required. 

The Goldwing Road Riders Association and the Kansas Twisters Motorcycle Drill Team will host a motorcycle precision drill performance Saturday morning (6/1) at 9 in the Golden Corral parking lot on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway in Branson. 

The Lebanon I-44 Speedwaywill host the Roper Classic Saturday (6/1). 

The Primitive Skills program, “Fire and Flintstone,” will be held Sunday (6/2) from 1 to 3 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Learn how to start a fire without matches or butane. 

The Moxie Cinema’s Essentials Film Series will feature the 1965 film, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” Sunday afternoon (6/2) at 4:30. 

See the film, “A Genius Remembered:  George Washington Carver,” Sunday (6/2) at 1 at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond. 

“Sunday Make ‘n Play” is Sunday afternoon (6/2) from 2 to 4 for kids three-years-old to grade four at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library. 

The program, "Birdsongs," will be held Sunday morning (6/2) at 10 at the Roaring River State Park Nature Center in Cassville, and "Fly Tying" will start at 3 at the same location. 

Michele Skalicky has worked at KSMU since the station occupied the old white house at National and Grand. She enjoys working on both the announcing side and in news and has been the recipient of statewide and national awards for news reporting. She likes to tell stories that make a difference. Michele enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and leisurely kayaking.
