Missouri Legislative Session Begins Today

As Missouri's legislators prepare to begin this year's session at noon today, there are some signs that the partisan gridlock between the Republican-controlled legislature and the Democratic governor is easing.  Phill Brooks reports from Jefferson City.

An indication of maybe a better relationship with the governor came from the Senate's president pro-tem Tom Dempsey.  He's been critical in the past for the governor failing to work with lawmakers, but on that unaccredited school district bill Nixon vetoed last year, Dempsey was upbeat.

"I think my most recent discussions with the governor and the people who speak for him have been positive," he said.

Nixon himself extended an olive branch a couple of weeks ago when he endorsed a plan to renovate the capitol building that he had so strongly attacked before.
