The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive in remembrance of four people who were killed in a shooting at a convenience store six months ago. One of those killed at the Kum N Go on E. Chestnut Expressway was Springfield police officer, Christopher Walsh.
The Unite Springfield Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, September 15-17, at the Springfield Donor Center, 220 W. Plainview Rd., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
CBCO spokesman, Chris Pilgrim, says the tragedy last spring “illustrates that we need to be ready to respond to any blood-related emergency,”
All donors during the Unite Springfield Blood Drive will receive a commemorative T-shirt. A $5.00 donation will be offered to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks’ Kum & Go 3/15 Relief Fund for each blood donation received. The fund provides financial assistance to the family members of the deceased, injured and others who were directly affected.
There’s currently an emergency appeal for all blood types at the CBCO. Blood reserves are at very low levels due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
