Friends Of The Library Prepares For Fall Book Sale At Ozark Empire Fairgrounds

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library’s Fall Book Sale is coming up.  And Andrea Still, president of the organization, said they’ll have about five and a half truckloads of items for sale.

Of course, there will be many different genres of books, but you’ll be able to purchase other items, too.

"Records and CDs and albums, games, toys," said Still,  "We also have sheet music, DVDs, videotapes, even some audio, you know, little cassette tapes left.  There's some magazines."

There will be a new section, Black History and Culture, in the Better Books area of the sale, which will include titles by Black authors.

The Friends of the Library had to cancel their spring sale due to the coronavirus pandemic.  And Still said there will be safety precautions in place at the fall sale.

"We will be requiring that everyone age 12 and over wears a mask," she said.  "And we will be asking people to social distance as much as possible.  We will have some other, you know, markings, where to stand while you're waiting to pay or to be counted, that kind of thing."

Sale customers are asked to take their own bags, except for Sunday, which is Bag Day.  There will be acrylic shields separating cashiers from customers, and hand sanitizer will be available.

The sales' revenues benefit library programs and other library projects.  Those include the We Read preschool program, which provides a free book to families served by Parents as Teachers; prizes and incentives for the Summer Reading Program; special speakers; music programs and more.

The sale kicks off Tuesday, September 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Friends Night Preview Sale.  Memberships can be purchased at the door for $5.

The sale will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, September 16-18; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 19, which is Half-Price Day; and 1 to 5 p.m. September 20, which is Bag Day.  Everything you can fit into a sack is $1 or $5 per bag from Better Books.  The sale will be held at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex.
