During peak drive times in Springfield, highway 160 south of the city is packed with vehicles. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route 160, between Plainview Rd. and South St. in Nixa, averages 30,250 to 40,250 vehicles per day, with the higher number on the northern part.
A project by the Missouri Department of Transportation is aimed at making that stretch of roadway safer.
"What we're seeing is a number of rear end accidents and angled accidents at the intersections, and we're looking at a way to make that a better, safer driving experience," said Kristi Bachman, project manager with MODOT.
A public meeting about the project will be held tonight (2/8) at the Library Center, according to Bachman.
"The purpose of the meeting is just to hear from the community what issues they're experiencing and do they have any recommendations for solutions primarily at the Farm Rd. 157 and Farm Rd. 192 intersections," said Bachman.
The meeting will be held tonight from 5 to 7 and will be come-and-go-style with no formal presentation.

According to MODOT, the suggestions will be used by an engineering consulting firm to develop options for upgrading that stretch of 160.
A second public meeting will be held later this year to show options.
Construction is expected to begin in spring or summer of 2019.
