IMAGES: Jordan Valley Park Fountain Offers Relief During Heat Advisories

With most outdoor Park Board pools closed for the summer season, Springfield resident Mary Mitchell and her three-year-old daughter, Victoria, sought relief from the heat at Jordan Valley Park's fountain.

"It's so hot," said Mitchell, "Her big sister is in school and we're like it's time to hit the water."

High-90s, low 100-degree weather has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a series of heat advisories for southwest Missouri, the latest to be in effect until 7:00 pm Tuesday.

Mitchell was not the only one to keep her cool outdoors. Dozens of children and parents gravitated toward Jordan Valley Park's Ozark Stream and Fountain's chilly jets on Tuesday.

Fassnight and Grant Beach Pools will reopen for Labor Day weekend which will likely be another few sizzling days.
