Health Department Moving Immunization Center, Jordan Valley to Offer Services at Westside

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is moving its immunization center, with operations at its Westside Public Health Center to become more family-focused.

The Westside Immunization Center, located on South Scenic Avenue, has served the community for 13 years. Kathryn Wall, public health information administrator at the Health Department, says those same services will soon be offered at the Harold K. Bengsch Building on Chestnut Expressway, in a more central area.

“It’s about serving our clients in the best way possible and really maximizing the spaces that we have.”

At the Bengsch Building, vaccinations will still be offered by appointment only. Officials will also focus on travel immunizations.

“There are a lot of folks who don’t recognize that we offer travel immunizations.  If you are traveling overseas sometimes it can be hard to figure out what immunizations you need and in what kind of time frame because that spacing also matters.  That is a service we offer and can be hard to find elsewhere.”

As for the former site, the Westside facility is partnering with Jordan Valley Community Health Center to become its West Springfield Clinic. There, staff will see pediatric patients and their families.

“They have dental care for adults and children, they just started optometry, and they have convenient care.  They have all sorts of things for families,” says Wall.

The Health Department says that services at the Westside Immunization Center will continue for the time being, but it plans to release more information about the new setup soon.

Appointments at the West Springfield Clinic will be taken Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 417-851-1558.

Immunizations at the Harold K. Bengsch Building can be made by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays 8 a.m. to noon, and Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be Thursday evening clinics by appointment.  The Bengsch Building is located at 227 E. Chestnut Expressway. Appointments can be made by calling 417-864-1658.
