Code Red Alert for Blood Lifted

Last week, the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks issued a rare Code Red Alert for all blood types.  Today that alert has been lifted.  According to the CBCO, more than 1100 blood donations were collected from the time the alert was issued last Wednesday until the end of last week.  That was an increase of 40 percent over normal daily participation.

CBCO Marketing Manager Chris Pilgrim said they want to thank everyone who responded.  He says they still need people to give on a regular basis.  “It takes around 225 blood donations every day to meet the needs of patients in our region, according to Pilgrim. "Unpredictable winter weather and a high incidence of cold and flu this year serve as reminders that healthy blood donors are needed every day. If you are able, please give blood at a CBCO donor center or blood drive this season.”

There’s still a Code Yellow Alert for A Negative blood.  For more information on blood donation or to find a blood drive coming to your area, click here.
