MSU Gears Up For Homecoming Week

It’s Homecoming week for Missouri State University. KSMU’s Theresa Bettmann has more about what students, alumni and local residents are looking forward to.

Numerous events lead up to Saturday's big game, like the Homecoming Rockstar Competition, chili cook-off, and a pep rally.

Julie Ebersold, executive director of alumni relations at MSU, says a special awards ceremony will honor those alumni, faculty and staff who exemplify MSU’s mission of public affairs. She says Saturday, Homecoming Day, has something for everyone.

“At 7 o’clock in the morning we have the 5k run, followed by a fabulous Homecoming parade. And then of course Bearfest Village before the game is the biggest tailgate event of the year in Springfield. It’s just the place to be before the Bears game on Homecoming day,” says Ebersold.

Ebersold says they hope the Bears will “bring a big win” in their game against Western Illinois. Kickoff is at 1pm. Halftime will feature the MSU pride band and the crowning of the Homecoming queen.

“Well of course Homecoming weekend is all about traditions. It’s all about celebrating Missouri State University. And we always look forward to the opportunity to bring alumni back to campus to celebrate with our current students,” Ebersold says.
