Paying Tribute to Black History Month

Throughout history, the culture and contributions of African Americans have, too often, been neglected or overlooked. That’s why Black History Month, which takes place in the United States each year in February, is an important observance.

Yvania Garcia-Pusateri, executive director of multicultural programs at Missouri State University, and two of her graduate assistants, Nia Morgan and Christina Gardner, share more about Black History Month and invite everyone to join in the celebration on campus.

A native of Malaysia, Emily moved to Springfield in 2010 and started working at Missouri State University in 2014. She’s currently the assistant director in the Office of Strategic Communication. She has a BA in Mass Communications from Colorado State University-Pueblo and a Master of Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
