As Summer Nears, MoDOT Projects Get Back Into Full Swing

The Missouri Department of Transportation’s southwest district has quite a few construction projects in motion this summer.

According to senior communication specialist, Angela Eden, there are several areas that are either getting an update or being refurbished.

An additional Route CC/J bridge is under construction across Route 65 in Ozark, which will later be converted into a diverging diamond intersection. The $8.3 million project is expected to be completed in mid to late June.

On Highway 60 at Routes NN/J between Springfield and Rogersville, crews are continuing work on a $15.1 million project that creates a new diamond interchange. Completion is expected this fall.

Meanwhile, U.S. 60 is being upgraded to freeway status in the Rogersville area given other various interchange upgrades and widening projects.

“And then we have the Highway 65 six-lane project going on between Route 60 and the Green Christian County line,” Eden adds.

That project, at a cost of $21 million, will not be completed until the fall of 2017.

Additionally, routine maintenance and an assortment of resurfacing will take place this summer.

“We just advise motorists to expect that they will have the unexpected in work zones,” Eden adds.

Eden notes there could be possible lane and ramp closings at night or during off-peak traffic times. Traffic guards may be present directing motorists through work zones.

According to Eden, MODOT has an app on which motorists can check the traveler information map. This displays traffic delays on specific routes. Motorists can also sign up for text alerts and email notifications.

Eden adds that while various updates are coming to roadways this summer, the one constant is how motorists can stay safe.

“Always slow down, get off the phone, put your full focus on traveling through those work zones,” Eden says.
