Ten people died in traffic crashes over the long Fourth of July weekend and 140 were injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Four of the deaths occurred in the Troop D, Springfield area during the counting period that began at 6 pm Thursday and ended at 11:59 Sunday night. The patrol says there were no deaths due to boating accidents and there were no drownings.
MSHP worked 305 traffic crashes and six boating crashes. Troopers arrested 127 for driving while intoxicated and 17 for boating while intoxicated.
Last year, nine people died in traffic crashes over the Fourth of July holiday, two died in boating accidents, and four people drowned.
