Joplin's Former Police Chief to be Sworn in as State's Public Safety Director

Governor Jay Nixon's Office

Lane Roberts is scheduled to be sworn in Wednesday as the newest director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

The Senate confirmed Roberts' appointment by voice vote last week. Gov. Jay Nixon nominated Roberts to the position in March.

Roberts led the Joplin Police Department for seven years before retiring in 2014. He’s been in law enforcement for 42 years.

Roberts takes over for former director Daniel Isom II, who served for only six months before announcing his resignation.

Boone County Associate Circuit Judge Michael Bradley will administer Wednesday morning’s swearing-in ceremony, to be conducted at the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial on the North side of Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City.
