Sounds on the Square: Missouri State University Jazz
Park Central Square is alive with the sound of music once again. The Sounds on the Square live music series is back this month, with performances on select Fridays and Saturdays in October. The series kicked off Oct. 2 & 3 and resumes Oct. 15.
"The Downtown Springfield Association is thankful to have Missouri Arts Council and the City of Springfield partner with us to alter the one-day Springfield Jazz Festival to a grassroots concert series," Rusty Worley, DSA Executive Director, said. "Through the past two decades of revitalization, we have witnessed how important the arts are in providing programming for Park Central Square. This series will support local musicians and make an evening of dining and shopping Downtown even more enjoyable."
Performances from the gazebo will start at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and run until 9:30. The lone exception is Oct. 23, when Sounds on the Square runs concurrently with Taste of SoMo. The schedule for the rest of the series is:
Friday, Oct. 15: Missouri State University Jazz
Saturday, Oct. 16: Missouri State University Jazz
Friday, Oct. 22: Springfield Community Jazz Ensemble, Swagger
Saturday, Oct. 23, noon-4:30 p.m.: Molly Healey, Shaun Munday, The Déjà Crew
Friday, Oct. 29: Arthur Duncan Jazz Trio, Lyle Strickland
Saturday, Oct. 30: The Shandies, Justin Larkin
