Construction has begun on phase II of the Jefferson Avenue streetscape project in downtown Springfield.  The project continues the streetscape improvements already completed downtown, including the construction of ADA-compliant sidewalks, lighting enhancements and signal reconstruction on Jefferson from Park Central East to Water Street and on Olive from Robberson to Jefferson, according to Springfield city officials.

The estimated cost for phase two is $1.16 million.  City Utilities will reimburse the city $253,836 of that cost.  Funding is provided by the 1/4-Cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax.

The project will result in lane shifts and possible closures at times.  During construction, the traffic signal at Jefferson and Olive will be removed and a stop sign placed on Olive St.

Olive St. east of Jefferson will be closed to traffic during the project.  It’s expected to be completed in January 2016.
