At its meeting this week, Springfield's Board of Publit Utilities passed a resolution adopting a plan for improving transportation services for low income, elderly and disabled residents. Michele Skalicky reports.
At its meeting this week, the City Utilities Board of Public Utilities passed a resolution adopting a plan for improving transportation services for low income, elderly and disabled residents.
The plan is a requirement from the most recent Highway Reauthorization Bill. Natasha Longpine, planner with the Ozarks Transportation Organization, says any projects funded thru three Federal Transportation Administration programs be derived from a local human services transit coordination plan
According to Longpine, the plan lays out six priorities that the OTO hopes to implement
Longpine says there's a need in our area by low-income, the elderly and the disabled for more services in the evening and on weekends and for more affordable transportation options. There's also a need for better understanding of services that are currently offered and adding sidewalks to better allow access to bus stops.
According to Longpine, the Community Partnership of the Ozarks has recently been working on a better coordination of transit services, and she says this plan comes at a good time
Longpine says the OTO worked with around 30 area organizations to develop the plan.
