The public can view plans for a proposed highway project between Lebanon and Camdenton this week. Michele Skalicky has more.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is trying something new. It's proposing making Highway 5 between Lebanon and Camdenton a shared 4-lane highway

Bob Edwards is a spokesman for MODOT. He says although MODOT has used similar concepts in the past, this is the 1st project of its kind to be done in the state

According to Edwards, a shared four-lane highway costs about half as much as a divided four-lane and increases safety for motorists

A final dollar amount for the project between Lebanon and Camdenton hasn't been determined, but Edwards says it will probably be between 40 million and 50 million dollars.

Construction is expected to begin in 2008, and the project will take two years to finish.

MODOT will host an open house-style meeting today (7/26) from 4 to 7 at the Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon. Visitors can look at exhibits about the project and talk with engineers. For more information, call MODOT at 1-888-ASK-MODOT or go to modot.org.
