Weekend Outlook October 27-29, 2017

MSU Folklore Club

The 10th annual Haunted Campus Tour is tonight (10/27) from 6 to 9 on the Missouri State University campus.  Hear legends, history and personal experiences about haunted spaces on campus and meet some ghosts along the way.  Tours leave approximately every 20 minutes. Ticket reservations can be made ahead of time: $4 per individual or $10 for a group of three. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center program, Halloween Happening:  A Return to Oz, continues tonight (10/27) from 6:30 to 9:30.  Go on a hike to learn about how each species has its own niche in the ecosystem, make crafts, play games and more.  Kids are invited to wear costumes.  For details, 888-4237.

The Discovery Center of Springfield is hosting a Halloween Party during regular hours today and tomorrow (10/27-28) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday (10/29) from 1 to 5 and Tuesday 10/31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A Halloween scavenger hunt, holiday activity stations and demos will be included with the cost of admission. 

Springfield Contemporary Theatre presents the Rocky Horror Picture Show today through Sunday (10/27-10/29) at 431 S. Jefferson in downtown Springfield. 

Voices from Eureka’s Silent City continues tonight and tomorrow night (10/27-10/28) at the Eureka Springs Cemetery.  The living history tour this year will feature live actors in period costumes portraying some early citizens of Eureka Springs.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and younger. 

Harvest Fest continues through Sunday (10/29) at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park, 3825 W. Farm Rd. 146.  A Haunted Trail is open tonight and tomorrow night (10/27-10/28) from 6 to 10.  Other activities include a pumpkin patch, corn maze, cow train, hayrides, pedal tractors and more.

A Chili Cook-Off and Auction, to benefit YMCA financial assistance program, will be held tonight (10/27) at 5:30 at 500 E. Elm in Lebanon.  Admission for anyone 11 and older is $5, and kids under 11 get in free.  Entry is free for chili contestants. 

The Battlefield City Hall Haunt will be held tonight (10/27).  There will be games and candy, firefighters decked out in their uniforms, animals from Dickerson Park Zoo, and more.  Kids are encouraged to wear costumes. 

The Traditional Dance and Music Society will host the 2017 SoleFest Weekend today through Sunday (10/27-10/29) at Ozark West Elementary. 

The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to the historic Lyric Theater, 113 W. Rush, in Harrison, Arkansas tonight (10/27) at 9.  Bags of props will be available for $5.  Advance tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. 

The Central Scare Monster Mash will be held tomorrow night (10/28) at 7 at Central High School, 423 E. Central.  Admission is $5.  The haunted house raises funds for the drama department. Tonight's (10/27) Central Scare has been canceled.  

The program, Ghostly Glades, is tonight (10/28) from 6:30 to 9 at Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center in Joplin.  There will be five stops along the trail, and at each stop guests will learn about a mysterious animal or plant that lives in the area. It’s designed for kids five to ten-years-old with a guardian. 

Eric Hoffman, whose firm, Patterhn Ives, was involved in the renovation of Ellis Hall at Missouri State University will speak at 3 p.m. today (10/27) at Drury’s Hammons School of Architecture.  The talk is part of HSA’s PERFORMANCE-ART Lecture Series. 

A Class Act Productions presents “Grave Tales:  Episode 14” tonight (10/27) at 9 and 10:30 at 308 South Ave. in downtown Springfield.  The shows is for mature audiences. 

The Drury Jazz Combos I and II will perform at 6 tonight (10/27) at Drury’s C-Street Gallery, 233 E. Commercial.  Admission is free. 

Drury Volleyball will host Lewis tonight (10/27) at 7 and Wisconsin-Parkside tomorrow (10/28) at 3 at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.  For ticket information,

The Ozarks’ Coin Club’s annual Fall Coin and Stamp Show will be held tomorrow (10/28) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (10/29) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant in Springfield.  Admission is free. 

The Joplin & Springfield Railway is giving free Halloween train rides tomorrow and Sunday (10/28-10/29) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1101 N. Airport Blvd. 

Trick Art Treat will be held tomorrow (10/28) from 10 a.m. to noon at the Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside Dr.  The free event for all ages will feature Halloween themed art projects, games, pumpkin decorating, scary stories and a costume contest. 

A family-friendly Halloween Night Hike starts tomorrow night (10/28) at 7 at the Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center in Branson.  Learn how Missouri’s wild animals use their senses at night.  To register, (417) 334-4865.

Missouri State’s Homecoming celebration will be held tomorrow (10/28) with a parade at 9 a.m., Breakfast with Boomer at 10, Bearfest Village from 11 to 2 and a football game against Indiana State at 2. 

International Observe the Moon Night will be held tomorrow night (10/28) at 7 at the Eureka Springs Community Center.  Dr. Katherine Auld, NASA Solar System Ambassador and founder of NWA Space will talk about lunar science and NASA missions, followed by hands-on science activities and a moon-inspired art show. 

The MSU men’s soccer team will host Loyola Chicago tomorrow night (10/28) at 7 at the Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.  For ticket information, 836-7678 or missouristatetix.com.

The Eureka Springs Zombie Crawl/Parade will start at 6 tomorrow night (10/28) and will go from the library to Basin Spring Park.  Dog owners are encouraged to dress up their dogs and meet the Krewe of Barkus at 5 p.m. at the library to walk in the parade.    There’s no charge to be in the parade, but participants are asked to take two cans of food for a local food pantry.   

The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to the Gillioz Theater in downtown Springfield tomorrow night (10/28) at 8 with interaction kits, commemorative t-shirts, costume contests, a raffle, a post-movie dance party and more.  Tickets to the movie are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. 

The 22nd annual Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular is tomorrow night (10/28) at 7 at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs.  The family-friendly event will include music, games, costume contests, haunted hay rides and more. 

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K will be held tomorrow (10/28) at 8 a.m. starting at the Hammons Field Plaza. 

Professor Powers Gross Bio Class is tomorrow (10/28) at the Summit Preparatory School, 2155 W. Chesterfield Blvd.  Make and take home a model of what your blood would look like under a microscope.  The program for kids five to 11 starts at 1 and for 10 to 15 at 2:15.

A Community Work Day will be held tomorrow morning (10/28) from 8:30 to 11:30 at Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center in Joplin.  Volunteers will clear remaining flood damage and do general trail maintenance. 

The Antique Festival of the Ozarks is tomorrow (10/28) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (10/28) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, 3001 N. Grant in Springfield.  Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. 

The Laclede County Shrine Ladies will host a Craft Bazaar tomorrow (10/28) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be available for $5, and proceeds will be used to help a family in need at Christmas. 

The B.A.R.K. Ranger Walk starts tomorrow morning (10/28) at 9 at George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond.  According to the park, “this event celebrates dogs across the country and the benefit of utilizing the protected areas of the national parks for the use of exercise for both humans and their furry friends.” 

The Springfield School of Metaphysics will host a Chocolate Tasting event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow (10/28) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1033 E. Sunshine.  Admission is a $10 donation at the door.  For more information, (417) 831-0955.

The Superhero Festival and 5K Run will start tomorrow morning (10/28) at 11 at the Anstaff Soccer Complex, 202 Old Stonewall Rd. in Harrison, Arkansas.  Participants are encouraged to dress up like their favorite hero.  The Superhero Festival will be at Harrison City Park from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include a costume contest, games, candy booths, and an outdoor showing of Wonder Woman a 7 p.m.   Proceeds will benefit Grandma’s House Children’s Advocacy Center. 

The Queen City Beard and Moustache Federation will host a Community BBQ at the Springfield Tool Library, 1471 N. Benton, in Springfield tomorrow (10/28) from noon to 2.  Learn more about the federation and about the library. 

Thriller on C-Street is tomorrow (10/28).  The Thriller on C-Street Matinee, featuring a kid-friendly performance, starts at 4 p.m.  A pre-show starts at 7 with the show at 7:30.  There will be free and VIP seating for each show.
