Christian County Master Gardeners will present a free seminar tomorrow (1/30) with tips on “improving the Soil Health in your Garden” and “Successful Tips for Backyard Gardening.”  It will be held from 1 to 4 at the Nixa Community Center, 701 N. Taylor Way, in Nixa.  KSMU’s Michele Skalicky talks with Christian County Master Gardener, Jennifer Ailor, about the seminar.

The Ballroom Thieves will be in concert tonight (1/29) at 7 at the West Plains Civic Center.  According to the group’s website, “the trio finds a captivating mélange of acoustic styles, blending folk conventions with modern hymnals, delta blues grit with rich harmonies, exploring the basic constructions of pop music while almost wholeheartedly rejecting its restrictions at the same time.”  For ticket information, 256-8087.

The program, “Exploring Your Land Ethic through the Works of Aldo Leopold” starts at 7 tonight (1/30) at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  The evening will include live music by Curt Carter, a certified facilitator with the Leopold Education Project and half of the folk duo, Carter and Connelley.  To register, 888-4237.

Puzzle Pieces

The Park Central Library will celebrate National Puzzle Day today (1/29) with jigsaw puzzles from 9:30 am to 7 pm.  To find out more, 831-1342.

The West Plains Library Foundation will host a Chili Cook-Off tomorrow (1/30) from 4 to 7 at the West Plains Civic Center.  Admission is $5 in advance at the library or $7 at the door.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will offer “Leopold Education Project Training” tomorrow morning (1/30) from 8:30 to noon.  Learn activities designed to be shared to help others discover nature and to instill a land ethic among tomorrow’s stewards.  The cost of materials is $20.  To register, 888-4237.
