  • The Springfield Conservation Nature Center will host an Owl Prowl and Evening Stroll tonight (1/6) from 6 to 9.  Trails will be open and patrolled—take flashlights.  Dickerson Park Zoo will offer two indoor programs—at 6:30 and at 7:30—to give you an up-close look at Missouri’s owls.  No registration is required. 
  • A 90-minute informational seminar for area residents interested in applying to MSU-West Plains’ Associate of Science in Nursing Degree Program will be held this morning (1/6) at 9 in Looney Hall, room 303.
  • A dance is held each Friday evening from 7-9:30 at the West Plains Senior Center.  Admission is $4, and all ages are welcome.
  • Acoustic Jam on the Square is tonight (1/6) at 7 in West Plains.  The Acoustic Country, Folk & Rock Jam will be at the West Plains Music Store and the Bluegrass Jam will be at #1 Evans Arcade.  Take instruments and chairs.
  • The Discovery Center of Springfield will host the Year of Citizen Science Kick-Off Event tomorrow night (1/7) from 6 to 8 with guest speaker Dr. Scott Zimmerman, biomedical professor at MSU.  Learn how to gather data and send your collected data to scientists who are researching a variety of topics.  For more information, 862-9910.  Admission is free.
  • The Heart of the Ozarks Bluegrass Association presents Michael “Supe”Granda of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Powdermill and Scott Shipley in their second concert in the Acoustic Concert Series tomorrow night (1/7) at 7 at the Avenue Theatre in West Plains.  Tickets are $10.
  • A Contra Dance will be held tomorrow night (1/7) at Northview Center at Doling Park.  Basic steps will be taught at 7 and dancing will be from 7:30-10:30.  Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and members.  For more information, 862-8681.
  • The Star Theater in Willow Springs will host the 2012 Film Festival “Movies-the Way They Were.”  The series kicks off tomorrow night (1/7) at 7 with two silent film classics:  the 1902 film “A Trip to the Moon” and the 1923 film “Safety Last.”    Admission is free.
  • The MSU Lady Bears basketball team will host Drake tomorrow night (1/7) at 7:05 at JQH Arena.  For tickets, 836-7678.
  • The SAAF House Spay and Neuter Clinic will host a Rabies Vaccination Clinic tomorrow (1/7) from noon to 3 at All Pet Supplies, 2845 W. Kearney.  The cost is $10.  All dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers.  For more information, www.saaf2018.org.

  • Families are invited to the Library Center for “Surprise Saturday” tomorrow (1/7) from 11 to 2.  Enjoy a family-friendly activity for all ages.
  • The Library Center will continue the series “Saturday Afternoon at the Movies:  Screwball Comedies of the 1930s” tomorrow afternoon (1/7) at 2.  Watch the classic 1938 comedy “Bringing Up Baby.” 
  • The Sunday Concert Series continues Sunday afternoon (1/8) at 2 at the Library Center.  The concert will feature fingerstyle guitarist Randy Buckner.
