Missouri State University called a press conference Tuesday afternoon with two other local organizations to announce the keynote speaker for this year’s Public Affairs Conference at MSU. KSMU’s Matt Evans was there and has this report.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be this year’s keynote speaker. The son of the late Senator Robert Kennedy has built his reputation as a defender of the environment through a series of successful court cases and was named one of TIME magazine’s “Heroes for the Planet.”

This year’s Public Affairs Conference is called “The New Economy: Promise and Peril.”

MSU is collaborating with Leadership Springfield and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to bring Kennedy to Springfield for the sixth annual Public Affairs Conference. MSU President Dr. Michael Nietzel was one of the individuals making the announcement.“It’s always a pleasure for Missouri State University to host this conference and it’s great to have someone of the magnitude of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. being here.”

Kennedy will speak at 10 a.m. on April 16 at the JQH Arena.

The conference will take place April 13-16 and is free and open to the public. Tickets are required to attend Kennedy’s speech, but those tickets are free and will become available on March 3.

For KSMU News, I’m Matt Evans.
