MoDOT Preparing for Winter Weather

Missouri's Department of Transportation is looking past the summer heat and preparing for winter. Beginning next week, MoDOT workers will go through winter training to learn to operate snow plows and loaders. KSMU's Jana Greer reports.

Most of us probably aren't thinking about snow this time of year, but next week about 300 MoDOT workers will go through extensive training to prepare them for winter weather. Bob Edwards is the Public Information Officer for MoDOT. He says the training will include a variety of tests and exercises.

Edwards says that even though its summer, it's important to be prepared for winter weather.

MoDOT invests about 27.5 million dollars through out the state each winter to plow and salt roads. Edwards says that the training is designed to make the most of that investment.

The training will take place at the MoDOT facilities in Springfield. Through out the state, MoDOT will put about three thousand workers through the winter skills training session.
